Doumit is in Spring Training right now. He needs to play to get his game back. He shouldn't be at all tired.

I know I am one who has called for a Doumit position change and still would not mind seeing that. However, if you have him as your No. 1 catcher, you play him as your No. 1, including getting him game time to catch up after a long layoff.

That would be my point. But, doing it this way allows up to inflate our post counts and catch up to others...

I don't disagree that we should "play him as your No. 1". That doesn't mean you don't give him a game off every so often, though.

I agree Mike. I am not saying that JJ should play over Doumit, just that Doumit needs more days off. All catchers need days off, but in my mind, especially one who is pretty fragile and coming off an injury. I know he is probably our best power hitting option. Even if JR would play him at 1b on occasion to rest him a little.

Chavez gives up a run and now it's 5-3. Darn. This sucks.

Walk a guy with two outs. Pay the price.

I disagree with sitting Doumit. He is fresh and he is your best power hitter. A day off isn't a bad thing, but I think Doumit and Russell know better than any of us if he needs a day off.

I think the Doumit debate is interesting, and I like RD a lot so this isn't personal. I don't think Doumit post injury in 2009 is our best power hitter. In fact, I don't even think he's in the top 3 and you could argue reasonably he's not in the top 5. I also think that it is either Spring Training for Doumit and we play him even though he can't hit or we expect that he can hit. I think JR/NH are thinking like ZM describe in his post and are therefore playing him knowing he isn't able to produce offensively now. I am thinking about who's playing effectively today.

Here's my list thinking about the last 90 days or so not career potential or prior years. There is no way he's higher then 3.
1. Jones
2. Young
3. Doumit (?)
4. Cutch
5. Moss

The last three pitches to Willie Harris from Joel Hanrahan were all balls. All three were well inside the MLB gameday strike zone.

Anyone watching on TV?

Why Doumit swinging at the first pitch from a guy with control problems when you need two runs to tie the game?

Stupid, Ryan.

That's at least then 2nd time today too...

Ryan is very frustrating. BTW - I am watching on TV but buried my head when Hanrahan was pitching.

And LaRoche shows some patience and draws a walk.

Smary, Andy.

An extremely frustrating loss. I think we are going to see a lot of these down the stretch.

Well that's it. We lose one we should've won because JR leaves the starter in too long once again.

Terrible, terrible game. Milledge had a couple of good at bats, Young crushed a ball, but Doumit was a fire extinguisher on any potential rally.

Meanwhile, Maholm walks a lead-off guy and it kills him. Later, Chavez walks the same focking guy and it kills him.

Goddamnit ... if you are going to fock around and nibble and walk guys, you better get the next @#$%*$#@@#$*$#@ batter.
