Wilson blowing the gun up. Wow.

Got me thinking about Wilson a little. Little bro is a OTR trucker and attended an Indy game up there while he had some down time. I remember him telling about Wilson and a strong start hitting high 90s late into his start. Question is, if Wilson has the ability to maintain velocity why is he not a starter? He showed stamina in Indy coming up.

Wasn't his problem as a starter control and not velocity?

Most likely. Maybe down the road he should get some consideration. His control looks alright to me. And lately he's added that big slurve to go with a cutter. He's vital out of the pen. Pitched some big innings tonight.

I missed the hr. switched game over to computer, because I needed to go to bed. Slow bringing it up, then I see grilli pitching.

Great win! This team is showing heart!

Great team win. Even if it went the other way tonight. They didn't give up. Sign of a winning team.

Now if St. Louis and Cincinnati would ever lose. Can't wait for the homestand this weekend.

MLB Network . . . Grilli's 3 Ks in the 11th of Hunter, Cabrera and Fielder while trying to protect a one-run lead is the best closer performance of the year so far.

Fess up folks . . . how many were screaming at Hurdle for leaving Wilson in for a second inning and not bringing in Melancon in the 9th? Be honest . . . I personally thought it a big risk with Hunter and Cabrera coming to bat. Raised my eyebrows and told my neighbor "this ought to be interesting."

No Grilled Cheese in the 11th if it played out that way. Jus' sayin'. No crystal balls in the dugout. Its a game of chess . . .

Getting back to the full game... Is it just me, or do hitters have real problems squaring up Jeanmar Gomez's sinker? I saw a lot of weak contact tonight. This guy might have to stay in the rotation.

He deserves some consideration. He's been solid all year even when he was coming out of the pen.

Yeah, really. Their winning percentage would indicate that they lose 2 out of every 5 games, yet they never seem to lose.

Well, 7 of our next 21 games are against the Reds. We can help ourselves a bit by taking both series.

The NL Central is just sick good. Our win percentage with a tough schedule would put us in 1st place of every other division in baseball both American and National Leagues. Yet we are in third place in the Central and 2.5 games back.

If this had been Burnett vs. Verlander I might have been more into the pitchers duel. As it was I was just frustrated at the Pirates' continuing inability to hit the ball. Porcello did appear to have really good stuff though.

At this point, Gomez is going to have to pitch his way out of the rotation, and Morton is going to have to pitch out of the bullpen when he comes back.

The NL Central- home of the best three records in all of baseball! Actually we are tied with the Rangers for 3rd best. Comedy Central no more!

[re: earlier debate about Sanchez going down looking]

Is this a case of Miguel Cabrera getting fooled by the right pitch in the right spot, OR did Cabrera allow the World Series to end on a called strike because he's a stupid hitter that would have rather walked?

It was terribly risky.

I wasn't screaming, but was ready to defend J-Wil had he 'blown it' (that is, it's rare for any pitcher to come out unscathed vs. such a lineup).

Clutch inning by the young lefty. Might be something that pumps him up even more.

Justin Wilson is really, really good. When he gets his breaking ball over the plate, he's nearly unhittable. How many lefties are dealing at 98 mph out of the 'pen? Chapman? Maybe Brothers? Anyone else?

I was. I even wrote as much on another board. I thought it was another instance of "playing for the save", or I guess the hold/save in this instance. Righty/righty right off the bat, best hitters in their lineup, put in your best option.

But as JC alluded to above, I also noted that I still like Wilson and he was throwing darts. The Bucs are going to have some insane arms in 2 or 3 years.

That would be Mr. Alan Trammell.
