9-0. How about that Russell Martin now? What I'm liking is that cutch is not carrying this team offensively right now. Last few years when he was slumping, the whole team was.

Forget about throwing at the other team. Just kick their ass.

Pirates will be first in the NL central with lots of room for improvement. The bullpen really can't get any better, but we don't have a 5th starter to speak of, and Cutch is slumping pretty hard. No one on this team is really playing above their heads, so this success is definately sustainable. Should be fun until at least August this year, I'm crossing my fingers for September. But, remember we have Liriano, Morton and Cole with outside chance of Taillon and Karstens even if our rotation slips at all late in the year. Love my Buccos right now.

I generally believed Martin would post a much better BA and OBP than last year, since he had the 3rd lowest BABIP in 2012 of any player with at least 350 plate appearances (.222).

His career figure is 75 points higher, so it made sense that he was going to hit a hell of a lot better than .211 and an OBP of .311.

But I figured his power numbers might decline a bit. So happy to be right about the first issue, and wrong about the second.

Unlike some local sportswriters, I wasn't worried before the season about Martin hitting .211 last year. And I sure as hell ain't worried now.
