CLOSE to what? He's there hitting .357/.400/.786 over the last 8 games with 4 HR. BTW, I called it last week before HR #1, pat on back ahem ...

Close to going off to the point where he is carrying the team. He is pretty hot right now, but not white-hot like he has been in the past.

His AB's are getting better and better. I thought he was going to launch one in the 8th. He hit two massive bombs foul, and a smoked a liner to CF for the 3rd out.

So he is close ...

He was bunting for a base hit. It was not a sacrifice attempt. Alvarez was playing well off the third base line and was also playing deep. Utley thought he'd catch him sleeping and did not execute the bunt well.

Gotcha, I was only following along on Gameday so I didn't see the play (and it actually listed as a ground out), and saw some Phillies fans I know complaining on social media as if it had been a regular sac bunt.

Hey, as long as we're back patting, let's not forget when Corsair made that thread last week claiming that Alvarez should be sent down for being worthless and he tried fighting me to the death after I responded that he had been looking good in his ABs, drawing walks and showed signs of breaking out.

It's typically pretty evident when he is and isn't seeing the strike zone well in my experience. But of course there are always those of the "who cares if he draws two walks in a game if he isn't hitting three HRs a week" variety.

I agree. His pitch recognition looked a lot better than earlier in the year when he was swinging at pitches a foot outside and in the dirt.

He is heating up. McCutchen got of the 0'fer train and has not really heated up yet. Walker has been "ehhh." If Pedro, Walker and Cutch heat up - be afraid, NL Central. Be very afraid.

All i can say is awesome! It was a day game so I was at work. Watched some of it on my phone. Saw the ending when I got home. I promised I wouldnt get too high on this team after what happened last season. But they are winning games they used to always lose.

It's a shame that we didnt' include 'Date when the Bandwagon starts to get full' to the 2013 Prediction Contest! :D

What a run during this 'gauntlet'. 11-4 since the LA series and 9-3 since the return from the West Coast.

If that game vs. the Cards didn't get rained out the Bucs would have a share of first right now.

Time to get them in the Gateway city!

That's what is worrying me too! I don't want to get too high on this team!

If someone would have told me before this series started that the Bucs would lose to some ham and egger minor leaguer on game one and would then knock down, in succession, Hammels, Halliday and Lee, and oh, by the way, Cutch is going to go 1 for the series, I would have told them to put the crack pipe down! Great series of wins, now stomp the Cards!
