There he goes again. Dammit.

I have an idea. Let's move Marte over next to Cutch, and leave left field undefended.

So, is having both Jones and Gaby in the line-up looking to be semi-permanent? I know this is only game 2, but I thought it might have just been a "Gaby had a great spring, so he's going to start on opening day" kind of thing. I just hope it isn't some reactionary move rather than putting a better strategy forward (and I don't think much of Hurdle as a manger, so I do question).

I get the temptation to start both guys, they could both very well end up as two of the team's best hitters overall. But it seems kind of odd to me how the team even went on record as saying that there was competition between a few guys for the RF starting job/general playing time coming into the spring and Jones and Gaby were supposed to be a straight platoon at first while younger guys in Tabata and Snider competed for the OF spot. I would think that the Pirates need to see what they have in Snider and play him against RHP (and before someone says it, yes, Snider had that awful K during his PH opportunity Monday, but so did a lot of other Pirates).

Wandy pitching well. Pirates need to get the bats going.

Well, good at bats from 2-6. Would have been great if Barmes bloop hit would have fallen.

Wow, what a gutsy inning for the Buccos! Great game for Wandy and a great "save" for Tony Watson. Whew...

I just got back to the hotel after my first ever visit to Nationals Park in D.C. Really nice park but . . . holy Mary Mother of God . . . was it cold. Watching the end of the Buccos on line. Looks just as cold in Pittsburgh. Nasty.

Nice to see Marte knock Barmes in, which I never thought I would type as he's usually never on base.He did just squeeze that by Castro. Too bad Jones couldn't keep it going.

Probably just confirmation bias, but I can recall at least three big strike calls on pitches at the very edge of the zone that Martin framed beautifully. One was a critical 3-2 pitch. He keeps his body/head perfectly still and the slight quick glove move is a thing of beauty.

I also noticed a much improved plate approach team wide. It was helped my EJax's on again off again command, but we saw many more atbats with 6+ pitches, even Barmes had a 9 pitch at bat.

Nice win all around, the pen is up to 5.2IP without allowing a hit.
