This post (with the exception of the Northern Iowa at Iowa State garbage in the signature :) ) made my day. Play ball!

I'm not Clint Hurdle's biggest fan, but I gotta say... I like that lineup. Now put on your snow shoes and get it done, boys!

Saw a quote from Hurdle somewhere on the net this morning about him viewing having both Jones and Gaby in the line-up gives them the "best chance to win right now but Tabata and Snider will still get plenty of time" ... will be interesting if this becomes a regular thing with the line-up. We were led to believe that they would be a straight platoon at first, and with Snider and Tabata both being young guys who need the playing time, I figured we were over the days of seeing Jones in RF. I'm okay with it on occasion, but don't want to see, for example, Jones getting a bunch of starts in RF against LHP because of a bizarre Hurdle strategy. I think I would have just given Snider the start against the righty in Samardzija today.

I think Sanchez, now healthy, has looked like a much better hitter than Snider. We shall see. Soon.

My personal take is that picking a particular lineup on a particular day should look beyond whether the starting pitcher on the other team throws with his right or his left hand. Call me crazy but if those that are making strategy decisions (and there are a lot of people providing input to Hurdle) like how Sanchez matches up against Samardzjia better than how Snider matches up against Samardzjia, I'll defer to that decision.

And . . . for those concerned about the "handedness" on the bench . . . sitting Snider allows for a lefty on today's bench.

The versatility offered by Sanchez and Jones is a nice option. Marte and McCutchen will offer some insurance for some of Jones' defensive shortcomings.

Need to score at least one of these first two runners who reached.

Alvarez sure got a good look on that first pitch, a shame he fouled it, thought he was going to get a hold of that one.

This is what worries me about Pedro. He takes an 0-1 pitch right down the middle and looks back at the ump in total disbelief.

Great fricken start. AJ gives up 2. We get the first two runners on and two Ks to end the inning.

YUCK!

Surely I wasn't the only one here who will admit that I thought the pitch was inside initially.
