$20...It's a Penncrest (Made by Kay). That was the JC Penney Brand. It's an early 60's model and depending on the year it actually may be American Made instead of in Japan...Paint is really worn in some spots. If this guitar could talk it would probably have some nice stories...

An acoustic with a bolt-on neck.........interesting. It has the huge head stock that is synonymous with early Japanese guitars. I have an old Kawaii electric that has a head stock that could double as the flight deck on an aircraft carrier.

Nice find. I love old stuff. How does it play?

It doesnt play bad. I'm going to put a new nut on it because there is some buzzing on the open A string. The bridge can be raised with a screwdriver. It's a pretty neat piece and I think this one isn't getting sold.

Clearly not a music person but two thoughts:
1- Was it Roy Orbeson who sang "Pretty Pictures..."
2- I'm sure what you said here is funny AZ because you put smiley faces after it. But I smiled because I have no friggen clue what you said.

Roy Orbison sang Pretty Woman....
A truss rod is a rod made of steel that goes through the neck of a guitar and is used to adjust the level of the fretboard. Some are accessed through the head stock where the tuners are and some acoustics are accessed from inside the body of the guitar. A truss rod cover is a cap that covers the access at the head stock to hide the truss rod. A J50 is a Gibson acoustic guitar...now have we thoroughly confused you? 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

AZ, messaged me earlier in the week if I knew where to find a cover for his guitar's truss rod.

AZ, did you get a customized one or did you find an original?

Somehow I just knew I shouldn't make that post! Thanks anyway.

Looks like it was played a lot, so it must have been well loved.

None of my business, but they'd kick me out of the Pawn Stars and American Pickers fan clubs if I didn't ask what you paid for it.
