Saw The Band in '73 with 600,000 others at Watkins Glen w/ Allman Bros. and Grateful Dead. Also, at Rich Stadium opening for Clapton on 461 Ocean Blvd. tour, considered by many to be the worst show of Clapton's career. He was so drunk, he spent half the show lying on his back on stage. Freddy King saved the day.

The Band were American music personified despite being Canadian. If I am correct, Helm was the only American in the band. They got their start as Ronnie Hawkin's band the Hawks and then made their name, literally, as Bob Dylans' band. As few bands go, they ended their time together on high note with the movie, The Last Waltz.

8-) 8-)

I"m kicking myself in the ass not going up to his Midnight Ramble on his farm in Woodstock on my brithday in October. I wanted to see him live once and his special guest that night was JD Souther, mostly famous for his songs he co-wrote with Eagles' Don Henley and Glenn Frey.

Chris Ethridge, bass player of the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons, and Willie Nelson died this past week also. Another guy with connections to some of my musical idols.
