When 70-80% of Americans support background checks and attempting to prevent mentally ill people from having access to weapons, and the people representing us (the Senate) ignore the will of the people, and do so due to politics, then we as citizens are left with only one action. Vote. Vote them out. They are in government to serve us, the people.

I will also add, that I am a gun owner. Grew up in a rural area around guns. I do however have no problem with these checks. Will they solve 100% of these actions? No, not at all, but if they prevent even 1 death due to a firearm in the wrong hands they are worth it.

8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Seems like a contradiction, ignoring the will of the people and doing so due to politics. Weren't they voting with an eye on the next election? That's what I think of when you say voting due to politics.

Ok, so if they're voting to get re-elected, then aren't they voting according to the will of the people? As in, their constituents?

They are voting according to the will of the people who will fund their re-election campaign. As in, the lobbyists. In this case, the NRA.

Campaign ads are far more influential to most voters than the senator's voting record. Therefore, having the NRA run ads supporting you (instead of your opponent) is much more valuable than trying to tout your own voting record.

Not sure here Ralphie. Do you suppose the founding fathers wanted to create a government owned by those with the most money or one in which the voice of the people ruled?

I'd say more the latter than the former, but even back then the people with money had a lot more say in what goes on.

Here's a surprise. More killed yesterday with a gunman in California. We've got this problem under control. Yes Big Bang fans that was sarcasm.
