My nephew is a redshirt freshman RB for NW Missouri State. I'll be going to Maryville a few times this fall to watch the Bearcats play.

This being the first time I've heard of the PSAC, I decided to do some research.

That's when I was disheartened to find out that the Cal U of P Vulcans don't use Spock as their mascot.

I take it then, too, that Slippery Rock doesn't use Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson or Rocky Balboa as theirs?

You are in for a treat, as NWMSU has one of the best Div II programs in the country and is in the very strong MIAA conference. I envy you. When Fall rolls around, please post on this thread about what you see and experience in Maryville.

I am so glad to be on this website. It's refreshing with all of its enthusiasm and no backbiting whatsoever. This is good. I hope to really be positively contributory. I will keep you all informed on PSAC football. You are in for some great coverage.

Incidentally, I think West Chester will win the PSAC East and Mercyhurst will win the PSAC West. I think Mercyhurst will win the East-West playoff game. After that, all bets are off!

Ah, my friend, we'll all have to wait to see the flux of DI talent that rolls into Cal U this year!

Thanks, ZM. Growing up in the seventies I went to a lot of Div. II football games at Southwest Missouri State. The North Alabama Lions wore yellow Lions helmets with purple lions.
Central Missouri State wore red Chicago Bears helmets!

PSAC Football Results Sept 1--4

Bloomsburg 27 Ashland (OHIO) 20
East Stroudsburg 56 Pace 14
Fairmont State (WVA) 31 Clarion 17
Lake Erie 13 Gannon 10
St. Cloud (Minn) 26 California (PA) 3
West Virginia Weslyan 53 Millersville 3
Shepherd 53 Shippensburg 27
Mercyhurst 24 Notre Dame (OHIO) 23
New Haven 35 West Chester 32 OT
Cheyney 21 Lincoln 19
Kutztown 56 St. Anselm 30
Edinboro 30 West Liberty 14
Slippery Rock 51 Seton Hill 14
American International 13 C. W. Post 7

These were all non-conference games, and the PSAC teams won 7 of the 14 games played. A rather mediocre perfomance, if I must say so. Next week's schedule will feature 7 crossover games between the teams of the PSAC East and the PSAC West. I will post the schedule later.

I didn't post my picks for the games just played, but Husky came through with 9 correct picks and 5 incorrect ones. He missed the mark with C.W. Post and American International, Lake Erie and Gannon, St. Cloud and California (PA), New Haven and West Chester, and Edinboro and West Liberty. Next week's crossover games are as follows:

9/10/2011 Mercyhurst Kutztown* Erie, PA 12:00 p.m.
Live Stats
9/10/2011 Gannon* Shippensburg Erie, Pa. 12 p.m.
Live Video Live Audio
9/10/2011 Edinboro* Merrimack Edinboro, PA 1:00 p.m.

9/10/2011 Clarion Bloomsburg* Clarion, Pa. 1:00 p.m.
Live Audio
9/10/2011 California (Pa.)* C.W. Post California, Pa. 3:30 p.m.

9/10/2011 Indiana (Pa.)* East Stroudsburg Indiana, PA 4:00 PM
Live Audio
9/10/2011 Delaware* West Chester Newark, Del. 6:00 PM
Live Video
9/10/2011 Slippery Rock* Cheyney Thompson Stadium 6:00 PM

9/10/2011 Lock Haven* Millersville Lock Haven, Pa. 7:30 p.m.

I forgot to mention that two PSAC teams are not playing crossover games--Edinboro and West Chester. Husky's picks to win are marked with an asterisk.

PSAC Players of the Week

East Stroudsburg's Ray Wagner is the second straight East Stroudsburg quarterback to be named the East Offensive Player of Week after the team's season-opening game after Wagner set three East Stroudsburg records in his performance vs. Pace. Cheyney's Tim Hume is the East Defensive Player of the Week after his exploits helped the Wolves defeat Lincoln (Pa.) for the first time ever, giving Cheyney a season-opening win for the first time since 2000 and a win in the "Battle of the Firsts," which annually matches up the two historically black universities that both claim to be the first HBCU in the country.

In the PSAC West, Mercyhurst's Travis Rearick is the Offensive Player of the Week after guiding the Lakers to an overtime win over Notre Dame College and helping the defending PSAC champions avoid the upset. Edinboro's Ryan Skelton is the second straight Fighting Scot to earn the Defensive Player of the Week honor in the first week of the season after the Scots' season-opening win over West Liberty, which marked the fourth straight season that 'Boro has topped the Hilltoppers to open the year.

Watched quite a bit of St. Cloud State/California on cable TV. Based on that game, California is going to have to develop something resembling an offense or else this could be a l-o-n-g season.

Yes, I was really caught off guard by that score. On the other hand, evidently St. Cloud has a good program going. They darn near beat defending Div II Champ Minnesota-Duluth last year, if I remember correctly.

On the Div II national scene, #14 Valdosta defeated #19 Wingate in two overtimes by a score of 34-28. #1 Minnesota-Duluth won over #9 Augustana 20-12. Lastly, as we all know, #13 St. Cloud whipped #11 California (PA) of the PSAC 26-3. A number of nationally ranked teams did lose to unranked teams in the first week of Div II play including Hillsdale #18 lwho lost to Ferris State 20-17, Pittsburg State defeated #7 Missouri Western 34-7, #2 Delta State went down at the hands of Northwestern State of the FCS, and #16 West Texas A & M was edged by CSU-Pueblo 26-24. The updated d2football.com national poll will be released tomorrow. There will be some changes from the pre-season poll.
