Bucco boy has inquired about the final determination as to how long do we keep the current keepers.

My answer is as follows, based upon what I recall from specific discussion and agreement among those who offered an opinion:

5 years, starting prior to the 2012 season, so this would be the 3rd year for any keeper on a manager's roster at the beginning of the 2012 season. I noted this time frame previously, on this site and/or the Yahoo message system, as I recall.

FA for keepers on a managers' roster who was there for the 2012 season will therefore be a free agent after the 2016 season.

Additionally, to "open up" the rosters, I propose 8 keepers this year, 6 next. The same "5-year" rule will apply, and the limit on tenure begins the season the player is obtained. Therefore, if I pick up Player A as a FA during the 2014 season, and designate him a keeper before the 2015 season, he will be in his second year with my team as a "keeper."

Same goes for trades. I obtain Player B in a deal in 2014, and designate him as a keeper for 2015, that is his SECOND season as a keeper.

The 5-year time limit makes that more than fair. Yes, yes, you lose part of a season for the keeper, but big deal. You get him for 4.5 years instead of 5.

Further, the keeper clock starts when that player is acquired. I believe this encourages more aggressive roster management and deals, including for Grade A talent. If Player C is in his 5th year of my "keepership," I have to deal him.

The manager getting the player will then get him for that season and four more. That encourages fair return, since otherwise, I just let him go into the draft pool.

I think that spells out the rules pretty well. Let me know if any questions, disputes, etc.

I also propose when teams designate their keepers, they post it on here and also how many years they have left under the current five-year 'contract'. This will make it easier to track when making trades etc.

I never received a notification from Yahoo to activate. I suspect that is because I was only "co-commissioner."

I had thought you received the notification.

No?

BBF is listed as the commissioner. He needs to activate the league or give bucfan control.

BBF with his lack of activating the league is still a better commissioner than Bum Selig.

Waiting for BBF to activate the league and identify me as league commissioner.

Will set up the 4-team re-distribution draft for Wednesday or Thursday night, and the open draft maybe 10 days later.
