I'm really tired of a reliever being trusted to get out of a jam after they WALK the bases loaded in a tie game.

Veras walks the bases loaded then gives up a three-run double.

Crotta walks the bases loaded then walks in a run.

This is an early season theme with the Pirates pitching. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised, but they can't throw the ball over the f'n plate.

I just don't see how you leave any of those guys in there when there are two outs in a tie game.

I know they are being resourceful after the 14-inning game, but don't start sacrificing losses because of it. A guy can come in to get that one final out.

Due to a lack of confidence combined with not being mentally tough enough....my opinion of course! 8-)

All of that came with two outs. Three walks in the equation including Crotta having a strike-zone meltdown and walking in the go=ahead run. Just disgusting.

Boy . . . strike 1 on Walker and strike 3 on McCutchen appear to be quite generous in light of the strike zone faced by Bucco pitchers throughout this game.

You can add the called strikes on Pearce to start the ninth. Strike 3 caught NO part of the plate.

Both Pearce and Bowker were hosed by the ump. There should have been runners on 1st and 2nd for Tabata with 0 outs.

Didn't Bowker go down swinging?

The Pearce call was bad, although IIRC he only had a ball or two, so you can't see he should have been on base. Surprised Hurdle didn't argue that one for team moral purposes. It worked in the Cubs series.

Doesn't really matter if he did or did not. I'm pretty sure a couple of the previously called strikes weren't in the strike zone.

Perhaps it is time that they started using modern technology to determine balls and strikes. Then there would be no need for the biased fat guy behind the catcher!

The Pirates have been getting pretty victimized lately. Some of these pitches aren't even close.

Losing sucks. Especially these types of losses.

Still, for whatever reason, I'm going to look on the 'bright side':

At the Pens game when I looked up at the scoreboard I saw it was 4-0 Rockies in the 2nd. By the time I looked up again it read 6-5 F.

So the fact that the Bucs fought back from (ANOTHER) early deficit is a good thing. The fact they got and blew the lead is obviously not.

This team is primarily young, though, so I'm not going to skewer them just yet. Plus, the Rockies are a fine club. I'll be more worried if and when the Bucs lose like this to the Stros.

I think these 'comebacks' and 'tough losses' bode well for the future. It builds character... or something.

It's only 2011 and the team is still .500. Not time to panic.
