Well, not a good start. Maholm walks the lead-off man and Carlos Gonzalez takes him deep for a 2-0 Colorado lead.

Can the Bucs come back?

Stay tuned...

Two walks handed out by Maholm in the top of the first inning. Yikes.

With the way Paul looks today, we might need to see who our long reliever is sooner rather than later....

I'd like to see some Pedro doubles today. Let him get some exercise running to second...

Single for Tabata after McCutchen strikes out. The kid is hitting .307 now. Sheesh.

He's an absolute singles machine.

Well, crap. Now it's 4-0 Rockies.

I knew I shouldn't have started a gameday thread. It's the J_C_Steel Kiss of Death.

I suck.

For the record, I'm blaming Maholm more than myself. I wasn't the one throwing 88 mph junk out there today...

OK. This is ridiculous. With two outs in the top of the third, Maholm boots a routine chopper and then allows the PITCHER, Esmil Rogers, to line a run-scoring double into the North Side Notch.

7-1 Rockies.

Sh*t.

Daniel McCutchen -- entering after Maholm went 2 and 2/3 innings...

I think that's what you call an earned, unearned run.

Well, he gets a seventh earned run anyway as McCutchen allows the Fowler to hit a ground-rule double down the left field line.

Nice.

Wow. Doumit has really gotta be hating the 2nd base umpire today. 2 safe calls for guys clearly gunned out already.

Bucfan's optimism with regards to Resop may be well placed...

Guy comes in and gives up a walk and a single, and then strikes out the side. Nice work.

Resop can deal. Here is why that is so important.

When Maholm is behind in the count 2-0 (which happens WAY too much for a nibbling soft-tosser like him), he has to continue to nibble. He cannot go right at the hitter since the 88 mph meatball gets put over the fence, into the notch, etc.

When Resop falls behind 2-0, he can go after the guy. He throws 95 mph cheese and the hitters cannot square it up.

Additionally, when a guy is dealing at 95 mph, the breaking ball is devestating because the hitters have to light the fuse ... the curve ball locks them up. When the hitters are facing a guy throwing 87-88 mph, they are making sure to stay back in any event and wind up being able to handle the breaking ball more effectively.
