The guy can't run the bases. He is not a smart person. I have officially seen enough of him....sorry.

I have no clue why he was trying to go to 3rd. The ball was sooo far to his right that he was never going to advance, unless Tulowitzki kicked the ball ... in which case, he could advance AFTER HE SAW THAT THE SS KICKED THE BALL.

Meanwhile, Jorge "Koufax" Delarosa is mowing down the Pirates. The Pirates rely on their lefty hitting too much and simply suck versus left-handed pitching.

Wow, I took a look at this thread before looking at the score and expected us to be down 6-0. Pedro's having a good night, the catcher we got for nothing has a three run jack, and Ross gave a quality start with 6 Ks.

Come on, a little optimism! You'd think we were going on two straight decades of losing seasons or something!

Oh, wait...

I think we've become.... pragmatic... jaybee :)

All in all, I have very little issue with the way this team has played since the AS break, and very happy since the trade deadline.

We won't win them all, by any stretch, but we have identified long term deficiencies. Up to NH to work with his budget now and fix it.

Lastings Milledge tries hard. Lastings Milledge has a good attitude. Lastings Milledge wants to play the game.

But Lastings Milledge is one dumb baseball player. He really is.

I'd have to say that I too am just about out of the Milledge camp. The baserunning gafs haven't stopped and they're coming at CRITICAL points in the game. This isn't just a Milledge thing though (Tabata last night?)...the Pirates baserunning in general has sucked all year long and I don't know who's responsible for not improving this early in the year...but that person should also be fired if it wasn't Varsho. Another thing I've noticed RE Milledge is his defense. He's never in a good position to field and throw balls that are coming off a wall...whether it's the outfield wall or the 1B line...it always gets past him. Great night for Pedro last night, and great job by Cutch and GJ for setting the table so nicely. Let's Go Bucs!

Didn't see the game, but I think Tabata still gets a pass since he's a rookie. From what I've seen, he's extremely aggressive on the basepaths, and hopefully some more experience in major league parks will make him selectively aggressive.

Milledge, on the other hand, is out of excuses. He's been up in the majors too long for this to be a lingering issue, and he's not hitting for enough power to make up for the baserunning mistakes.

Lastings Milledge should play ... but just against left-handed pitching. He absolutely crushes left-handers. His batting splits are ridiculous:

Code:
vs. Left  105 13 33 9 1 3 15 19 0 14 1 1 .314 .419 .505 .924
vs. Right 227 21 58 12 2 0 17 9 2 43 4 2 .256 .290 .326 .616

You make a good point. Play Milledge against the southpaws and run Clement (or Doumit) out there against the righties.

This ain't rocket science. Hell, it ain't even fifth grade science.

Exactly. From what the Pirates have said, it appears that the plan is to platoon Doumit and Milledge.
