Although speculation was that Pittsburgh's first-round draft selection (No. 4 overall) in 2009 would miss the rest of the 2010 season after a pair of serious beanings, Sanchez didn't get the official word until Monday morning at Pirate City, where he has been rehabbing.

Quote:
"I got some bad news today," Sanchez said Monday after a limited workout. "They (Pirates medical staff) told me not to even get my hopes up about playing the rest of the year. That's tough, man.

"I was telling everybody I would be back by early August. That's what I was hoping for. I'm optimistic, but these guys are going to play it slow.

"Once I heard that, I feel like I've wasted a year. It's like all of 2010 is just down the drain."

He expects to be playing Fall Ball somewhere to make up for the lost time this year

Wow this is a pretty significant injury. With the weight loss, and lost season he might not be arriving in pittsburgh for another 4-5 years.

Yeah, can't wait for that 2013 season, he'll get here just after we trade McCutcheon, Jones and Tabata for prospects at the deadline and Alvarez's mouthpice, Scott Boras, announces that there is no way in hell his client is staying for any amount of money.

Huh?? He was in high-A. He will start at high-A next year, perhaps even AA, depending upon how he does this fall.

Players who perform in AA are usually in the majors within 1 year. That would put Sanchez in the majors by 2012, or two years from now.

Where do you get "4-5 years"? Is that something you just made up?

This season is lost for him. Next year he will likely start in high A. Maybe he will end next season at AA. The next year he will be in AA and AAA. Ok maybe it is 3 years, but that is a perfect scenario. He still has lost a ton of strength which is not good especially for a catcher.

The regular season, yes. However, player development is now done year-round. Note that high school pitchers are not going to throw this summer, as they are not used to the workload. The work in the fall season.

Strasburg did not pitch in the minors in 2009. He worked in the fall league, and was in the majors by 2010. So your view as to the lost time is only partially accurate.

Very possible, even likely.

No, he would start 2012 in AA, move to AAA if he succeeds, and then to the majors later in 2012. That is not "3 years" from now, unless 2012 is three years away. If that is the case, then I am in a time warp and living in 2010!!

The key here is his success. If he hits in AA and AAA, he is in the majors by 2012. If he does not hit, then the broken jaw is not the problem; his hitting is.

IF HE SUCCEDES. I see him being up here in 2013 so let me take that back it will be 3-5 years not 4-5.

Do you know why you are the subject of some derisive comments on this board?

For making statements like, "I see him being up here in 2013 so ... it will be 3-5 years not 4-5."

Is this 2008 or 2009??? If not, then reaching the majors 2013, your worst-case scenario, IS NOT FOUR OR FIVE YEARS AWAY.

Please read. I retracted that 4-5 year estimate and replaced it with a 3-5.
You see 2010+3=2013. That is 3 years.

Yes, that is three. IT IS NOT - REPEAT, NOT - four or five.

Do you understand how to count to five??
