Ok, he hasn't been very good. And he hasn't been here long enough to build a big enough sample size to start analyzing splits. But, if one were to look at his split stats anyways, one would find that his WHIP against lefties is 0.86 (Opp avg. .160) compared to a WHIP of 2.83 (opp avg .396) against righties.

If we lineup Bautista, Beam, and Franquelis Osoglesong as our mop up guys (only the Pirates would carry/could use 3 mop up guys), maybe Russell could try using Burnett as a LOOGY and save both Marte and Grabow for set up work. If Burnett's apparent success against lefties isn't for real, we would find out soon enough, and then it would be confirmed that he has absolutely no value.
