To be precise, the latest date the Pirates have been @ .500 in recent years was June 11, 2005: 30-30. As you may remember, they had a Sunday game at PNC vs. Tampa Bay, blew a lead and lost in extra innings. That put them back below .500, and then they went to NY and the Yankees beat them like a rented mule. They haven't been .500 later than April 30 ('07) since.

SHHHHHHH BOB!!!!!!!!!! Don't remind us! :?

On a sidenote, -- just flipped the TV over to Reds-BoSox at Great American Ballpark and it is quite comical to see the Sox pitcher attempting to bat.

I think it would be the latest in the season we've been at .500 in a good while.

Yeah I remember, in fact I think I was at that game. The only thing I really remember about it though was Tike Redman in center and me thinking that we might have found a decent center fielder.

I would just love to hear Coach Don Long's opinions on Bautista and LaRoche........maybe he would be too kind and not say what the real problem is >>>>>"they are not Major League hitters".

I am losing respect for Coach Russell every time he leaves a struggling starter in too long. Is it his rule that a starting pitcher must throw 100 pitches? :x

Osoria? I know this is a very used bullpen, but Osoria is not the guy I want in at a time like now ...

So much for this game. I'm getting the feeling that they are going to lose......beginning Interleague play with a game they should have won and going down hill from here?.................

I'm more frustrated about Osoria entering the game than anything. This guy has been completely hit or miss all year and when he's in "miss" mode he can be a relief equivalent of Matt Morris. Certainly not who I want to bring in during a still very winnable 1-run game.

I agree, I've been noticing it a lot lately. It's a disturbing trend.

Geez, I go off to take a phone call and when I get back they've blown a 3-run lead and now they're losing!

This is disgraceful.

$%&!

I realize that Russell has a hard job. I don't envy him. Who could he go to in the bottom of the 5th? He had to do something though. With a 6-2 lead and one out Dumatrait walks a batter, gives up a single, walks another batter.. hello? Wasn't that situation screaming for a pitching change??

Sean Burnett now has more walks than games pitched.

Considering Osoria's work yesterday it seems curious to go to him today. Even more curious to stay with him when it quickly appears he doesn't have it.

Was Salas called up today?

What is that - the 4th time we've went down 1-2-3 tonight?

A few things I know I can say without certainty since the 4th inning of this game

1. Osoria is not a quality major league reliver
2. Burnett is never going to be an effective reliever in Pittsburgh
3. John Russell is struggling to handle this pitching staff
4. Our hitters can't be blamed with a 6-1 lead but geesh, wake up already

I don't know that I'd give up on Burnett. I wonder if he just needs to be used more regularly?

Yep, big fat zeros now starting in the 4th inning. Burnett just gives up a homerun. Offense is done, Pirates throwing in the towel, Interleague play, June is screwed, and the Pirates will be buried under .500 buried in last place by the end of June...........and just only one game below .500 when it began.

Nothing has changed. This same cast of characters has no balls. They choke when it really counts.

Time to clean house NH and start all over...........next!
