For this Pirate team to struggle this much against the Nationals gives me no hope whatsoever going into Interleague play. These Pirates are now in danger of losing this game. Unbelievable! :x

Yates managed to get the job done. Would be nice to get some insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th. Who will pitch the 9th? It's gotta be Capps, no?

Hopefully they'll go off for 4 runs here and Capps won't have to come in again. 5 straight is tuff.

Gomez leads off the 8th with a double. Wilson is trying to bunt him over to third. Don't like that call.

All right Marte. Throws a 3-2 hook for a caught looking on Flores. Ballsy call.

Nothing special, just his demeanor, almost like he is "bothered" by playing against the Pirates. Even during his HRs in game one he appeared to be a little cocky. I thought for sure they should have knocked him down next time up.

As much as I was cussing out Burnett just Silver, I still think Burnett would have been a better choice to come North with the Pirates versus Matt Morris. I guess it was a money thing. The Bucs paid so much for Matty they wanted to see if he could earn his money and earn his keep. That's my guess. And it was a situation that NH inherited. I don't think we'll ever see again an overpaid retread on the Pirates again.

By the way, Mr. Freddy is stinking it up again today. Is Freddy ready? Don't think so. Is Freddy steady? Don't think so. He is holding this team back also. Not happy with Mr. Sanchez at all.

Except it was never Burnett vs. Morris. It was Burnett vs. Dumatrait (or maybe Burnett vs. Meek, but that would have put 4 lefties in the pen). I, for one, am glad NH went with Dumatrait over Burnett. I also think a fair number of people on this board accurately predicted that Burnett was likely to flop and his ST numbers were a mirage, but I won't say who...our egos are already too big.

Also, put me down on the record for wanting Freddy hitting 7th/8th until he figures himself out.

I must go on record as being one of the folks who thought he had earned a spot and I really liked the gravel in his gut. Alas, I must admit that he has not performed well enough to be at the ML level and perhaps never will again.

From Monday's Harrisburg Patriot newspaper (after Belliard played the final game of a rehab assignment with the AA Senators):

Quote:
Belliard, 33, finished his three-game stint hitless in 12 at-bats, including four strikeouts. He carried himself like he was too good for this level, lacking hustle and plate discipline, so he ended up looking like somebody playing two levels too high -- not two levels too low.

Thats why you havent seen anything of Bullington from the bullpen or much of Burnett...they're not good

Burnett last pitched on June 1st...If he was dependable he'd have pitched more in the last 11 days...

Bullington is there waiting for one of the starters to crap their pants and to go out there and wave the surrender flag for a few innings...

I believe Russell knows these guys arent good...
