Zach Duke (3-4, 4.19) vs. Randy Johnson (4-2, 3.88)

1. Rivas 2B
2. Willson SS
3. Bay LF
4. Doumit C
5. Nady RF
6. Michaels CF
7. Mientkiewicz 1B
8. Bautista 3B
9. Duke P

McLouth, Sanchez, and LaRoche all getting the night off. They might as well put Gomez in to start considering his success against the Big Unit.

I still feel good about uor chances. Please no more Kool-Aide for me, I think it has already affected by ability to use logic today.

That may be a good thing.

Duke 1,2,3 in the first. only 8 pitches. Here we go Bucs.

So many have been chirping all year about waiting for LaRoche to "get hot." Finally, yesterday, he has a nice game at the plate. So what to you do --- BENCH HIM THE NEXT DAY.

I love the logic.

Sounds like the D-Backs got ripped off on that HR call.

Russell probably promised Mientkiewicz that he would get the start today. La Roche is hitting .197 against lefties. I would like to have seen Mienky and Chris Gomez both start today.

My prediction.. we win 3-1, get a solid six innings from Duke and a couple of big hits from Jose Bautista!

Reynolds' double was really a homer? Where did it hit? Man, so many close calls this year and the umps seem to get them wrong. I see no reason why we can't have instant reply for these.

I'm not saying that I disagree with sitting LaRoche. I'm just questioning the logic. The reason that's been given by so many for continuing to put LaRoche out there is so that he gets hot and comes out of the "slump." He has a big day, so then you take him out of the lineup?

Bases juiced on 2 errors and a walk....lets go Rivas!!!!

And i don't know how many PA's he has, but isn't Mientkiewicz batting .077 against lefties?

Stop waiting until freaking late in the game to score runs! Errr. We should have at least got more than one run out of that.

Bases loaded and no outs.........Jack can't hit it deep enough to score a run (also grounded into a DP his last AB) and Bay doesn't get it done either. It's up to Doughnuts.......nope nope nope Doughnuts makes an out.........no runs scored.....I hope that's not the game right there. Pirates might not get another chance to score the rest of the game.

I thought a good fight would have put a little more life into this Pirate team. Seems like the vets of the team have some fire and passion.

Gomez has hit very well off of Johnson in the past including a homer (?!) and 5 RBI's. I would have definitely liked to have seen him in the line-up, especially since today is "bench day" with our startling line-up.

It's not often you get Johnson on the ropes like that. A golden opportunity passed us by.

Hey, what happened between Randy Johnson & Mientkiewicz? Benches cleared in the bottom of the 3rd. Was there a brush back pitch?

And so on cue, Arizona hits a Homerun and the game is tied 1-1.
Very frustrating.

Apparently he showed up the umps by raising his hands in mock approval rounding 2b. Blass said he should get plunked next ab.............but that he wouldn't. Has to be tough being a player from a bygone era watching this sort of thing.
