It has become tough enough to watch this team over the course of a full season. Now, more than ever , it seems Bob Walk must create hopeful situations and predictions in order to keep the loyal fan's interested. I feel it is much harder to listen to this fool, than to actually sit through a 9 inning game.
I was really looking forward to watching the game last night, after work, escpecially since i had no idea what the score was, which hardly ever happens. I felt like alot of the wind left my sail, when i turned on the game, and realized the Pirates, not the Phillies announcing team were calling the action.

I hope and pray, that maybe someday, in the not too distant future, WALKIE either realizes it on his own, or is instructed to just observe the game, make useful and constructive points, when it's his time to speak, and keep his FANTASY predictions to himself.

Last night, seemed like a 9 inning infomercial for that new slot parlor opening up in Pittsburgh.
Rivers casino?, is that the place, i guess has Walk do some kind of "Keys to the game?, which is supposed to somehow tie winning a baseball game with use gambling lingo. That is the impression i get during this little SKIT.
Most of you watch all the games, as i do, does anyone agree that he is becoming a bigger jack ass with all his predictions and hopeful fantasy scenarios?.

Harping on the hope , over and over again, that Adam La Roche, is going to have a BIG night, is a gamble in itself, but every at bat Laroche had, it was something like, "now's the time to double down", right before La Roche would hit one of his now famous, screaming 1 hoppers to first base.

Same scenario with Garret"he can do it all" Jones comments", most notably after he made a catch of the routine fly ball to left field.
If Walk wants to portray GJ as the next big thing for the Pirates, then turn around, and question why Small Market Johnnie and NH felt the need to keep this guy in the minors for the first 3 months of the season.
That is becoming quite annoying, for me, a loyal fan of this club, since 1971, to hear this Billy May's wanna be give his stupid predictions, his constant cheerleading, and just mindless comments over and over again.

I really hope that De Jean, or someone who talks to FC, happens to stuble across this forum , and forward this question on to the higer ups.
Next time one of these guys talks to FC, i would really like DJK, for example, to ask the big man, what his take is on the overall QUALITY of the Pirate's broadcasting team as a whole.

Does FC like the fact, that Bob Walks presence in the booth, has turned into a pitch man, a Kreskin, and just a plain obnoxious announcer, all in one?.
I enjoy listening to most MLB color men, especially the few that give useful insight, not their stupid predictions, before each and every pitch is thrown.
Bob Walk is not one of them, probably never will be.
Well Bob, if you were ready to DOUBLE DOWN on La Roche last night, guess what?, you would be homeless this morning.

I am curious if the Pirates brass ever talks to the announcers, and suggests to them how they want the play by play, and pretty much the entire game to be called.
Do they feel this is a first class announcing tandem ? Do they encourage Walk, Wehner, and Blass to give thougtless and un needed predictions constantly throughout the telecast?.
If the suits are happy with the job Bob Walks does, as the team's color man that is a just a shame. If they want a guy to constantly predict the future of the game, just hire Wayne Root, at least he has a much better track record of being correct on his calls.
Please Walk, next time you want to give your little Key's to the game, or whatever the hell you call it, don't include La Roche in it, you are destined for skid row using that strategy.
Pirate's front office, time to get some high upside guys in your announcing booth, not just a mediocre ex pitcher, turned color man, who is nothing more than a used car salesman with a microphone.

It is hard enough watching the team struggle , as they have done over and over again, but to hear Walk interject his little fantasy predictions,(that seldom come through), is getting a big too much too take.
He wants to make predictions, fine, keep them to yourself, WALKIE.
Do the job, that i am sure you are being overpaid to perform, and that is give useful insight on the situation of the game, at the current stage of it.
It's just becoming Gosh Darn sad to listen to this guy .
At least today, i am getting a stay of execution, by having Tim and Wehner doing the play by play. Bad thing is that is is already 5 zip in the bottom of the first.
I am sure small market Johnnie will at least stay with VV a few more innings, so he can at least reach his pitch count limit. (Grand slam on a 0- 2 pitch?, right after walking Werth , ( getting 2 strikes on him also), good accountability there Virgil, have a nice trip back to Indy.
Oh, what am i thinking,? this team is run by SMJ, and he thinks VV has upside.
And by the way , Animal, if my rant is just too long for you to read, or comprehend, please just ignore me, i won't take it personally. I know you have your limits.

Dude ... the pre-game predictions are nothing more than comments by the announcer about what he considers important matters for the upcoming game. Nothing more.

If the pre-game comments get you riled up and ruin your viewing pleasure, don't watch them. Seriously. This is not like me saying "Don't follow the Pirates." You can keep following the Pirates and watching the games - just avoid the pre-game show.

Dude, i have the extra innings deal, i don't know if you do or not, but there is no pregame show.
They put the game on about 5 minutes before it starts.
I am talking about the announcing during the game, not before it.

HUH?
Ok, i guess you meant to prove a point about something, but you really should try to make a little bit of sense. I realize who i am replying to, so forget about the making sense part of the equation.
You sure seem to be hung up on the word NOBODY. Excellent sentence structure by you, as usual.

Well i didn't read your whole article, but i am not going to insult you because this line about i do agree with. I have said this all year about Bob Walk and Teke. Last nights game when we blew the 4 run lead in the 9th they still found a way to find positives in the game. A positive would be putting a whole game together. The same thing happened today, 1 bad egg ruined the whole bunch and there is no positive in that.

The same thing happened today, 1 bad egg ruined the whole bunch and there is no positive in that.

There's still positives in losing for the Pirates...If this were the Red Sox or Rays or Yankees, then no there wouldnt be any positives from the last two games...

One positive is Garrett Jones had 3 HR in this series...Andy LaRoche, who has struggled in away games, had 2 nice hits Saturday night...Anyone who thinks that the Pirates give up and dont care need to watch that play by Jack lastnight...Ohlendorf put together a nice start after his lastone against Florida, Duke had another great start...And for the most part the Pirates were never far from being blown out...

It has become tough enough to watch this team over the course of a full season. Now, more than ever , it seems Bob Walk must create hopeful situations and predictions in order to keep the loyal fan's interested

All of the players you named about did have a great stretch right before the all-star break, but what i am afraid will be on their minds is how they were let down and this will bring on the big downfall of the season.

If they have these sort of problems, then professional sports shouldn't be their profession...

A thing i forgot to mention about Walk pertaining to the saturday night fiasco in Philly.

He constantly harped on the fact tht Ryan Howard cannot hit against the Pirates, pretty much never has, and he assumed he never will, he just can't explain it.

Seemed to throw that jibberish out the window, after Howard nailed that bomb to center field.

I would strongly wager, if Howard was retired, without causing any damage, the barrage of "Howard just can't hit the Pirates", would have begun again, in full force.

I guess that is one way for that jackal to keep his thoughts where they belong, to himself.
