Phil Dumatrait (1-1, 3.86) vs. Kyle Lohse (3-2, 4.87)

Bucs line-up ...

1. Sanchez 2b
2. McLouth CF
3. Bay LF
4. Doumit C
5. Nady RF
6. LaRoche 1B
7. Bautista 3B
8. Bixler SS
9. Dumatrait P

Well, I like the line-up. Bautista has also had a decent amount of success on Lohse. Would love to see another winning streak get started tonight against the Birds.

... if it happens of course. We have, you guessed it, more rain in St. Louis.

Is there an estimated time they want to get the game started?

So what's the deal...at 8:00 I turned it on and Lanny said they expected the rain to be gone by 20 after. Still no game.

Oh well...Let's Go Pens!

I really want them to get the game in. I'd hate for them to forget the winning habit... :o

Second inning, and Paulino is pinch-hitting for Doumit. Anybody know why?

Doumit had a pitch clang off his mitt. He was apparently crossed up. As soon as it happened, I wondered if he was hurt since the ball hit the edge of the mitt, where his thumb is located.

The next inning, he was due to lead off. Paulino took his place. Doumit hurt his thumb.

I knew the Pirates were screwed as soon as the announcers said that Kyle "Longball" Lohse had been lit up his last two appearances.

Sure enough, he looks like Bob fukkin Gibson.

Dumatrait looks very good. Sharp, crisp fastball with good location. Slider is really jumping tonight.

He is not getting help from the umpire, who is meanwhile treating Kyle Lohse like Greg Maddux. (The strike 3 call on Laroche was horrible.)

True, but him swinging at it might have looked even more terrible.

Freddy smokes a single, then Nates hits a two-run bomb.

Gold glover Albert Pujols gives up on a pop foul that should have been caught rather easily. Maybe he needs a little more "juice."

I hope Doumit (injury prone?) is not out for a great length of time. This is what I worried about before: Doumit gets injured and we are stuck seeing Paulino every day. That will not help the Pirate's cause IMHO. :?

Dumatriat's stuff is just nasty today. His slider is jumping and he has great control with the fastball. I am very, very impressed with his effort so far.

Bite your tongue, BD. Doumit is on my fantasy team and has been great.

Not that this is necessarily breaking news, or to say that anyone besides Freddy and Nate have contributed tonight (because they haven't), but Bixler is just embarrassing out there. At the rate he's going he really may never peak over .200 again. On the other hand, I really hope Dumatrait can continue this second great start in a row and not get bitten in a late inning.

Brian Bixler is the worst hitter I have seen this year - pitchers included.

He has absolutely no strike zone recognition. He will swing at any pitch, no matter where located.

He hits more soft grounders and pop-ups than the average American League pitcher batting for the first time since high school.

This is just horrid. Jesus Christ, didn't the guy hit like .320 the first half of the season last year in AAA? How??

Adding on re Brian Bixler.

He has walked 4 times in 68 plate appearances.

Paul Maholm has walked 4 times in 16.

I saw that! I thought, "surely he couldn't have read my post in those matter of seconds and was making that to agree with me." Surely there's a little bit of truth to the thought!
