Fun reading the comments about game #1. Listened to the last couple innings. Could that have been LaRoche hitting it out? Not possible is it?

Now the second game . GOOOOOO BUCS

That error was simply beautiful. Now hopefully we don't have any similar with Rivas back in the line-up today.

Vanbenschoten is throwing pretty well.

Lots of strikes. No walks. A bunt single and a blooper led to the first run. The pitch to Kotsay was bad, but otherwise he has done what was hoped.

The fact that the Braves are swinging and missing indicates that he is throwing pretty well.

Tim Hudson is a tough pitcher to rally off. The Buccos need to chip away, starting this inning (3-4-5 hitters).

JVB = not hard to swing and miss at.

JVB = hard to throw and stay in K-zone!

His fastball has a lot of movement. When he can control it, he is a tough pitcher. The problem has been that he falls behind 2-0 and 3-1, then puts the ball over the middle of the plate and gets hit.

By going 0-1 and 1-2 to a lot of hitters, he is making them swing at his pitch.

EDIT: That turned ugly in a heartbeat. Wow.

Game over.

Asking too much to have Vanbenschoten duel Hudson. I just hope that the Pirates get some good at bats against Hudson and drive him out of the game.

They Buccos have struggled recently on offense, even during the win streak. The streak has been fueled by very good starting pitching.

It's frustrating. I know Russell wants to take another look at JVB but Dumatrait had his five days rest. Well, we all knew we weren't gonna score runs for whoever started.

I miss seeing Burnett as a starter. Am I correct in understanding that his career may be prolonged as a result of him switching to the pen?

With respect to the Pirates bench, there is a huge drop-off in production when Paulino is in the game as compared to Doumit.

The whole line-up just works out better with Doumit hitting 4th.*

*Yes, Ronnie had a big double against the Braves on Saturday. But seriously, nobody would want to trade the offense that Doumit offers for Paulino's hitting.

As cynical as it is to say, we were done for one of these games sooner or later, might as well get it done on a split of a double header.

JVB sent down after the game.

not sure who is up. I suspect Marino Salas (sp?).

That would make sense. Pirates really cannot use another left-hander in the pen. Salas has pitched fairly well in AAA.
