The Pirates are more than a "minor upgrade" away from fixing, or at least helping, this offense. In order to get something of value the Pirates will have to give up something of value. It will be uncomfortable and may anger some people if the Buccos pull the trigger on a trade. One thing I am fairly certain...the Pirates can't win a playoff series with the bats they run out there on a day-to-day basis.

Hitting at this again, ;), this offense cannot continue to show up on occasion and disappear for long stretches. That all adds up to a bottom half or a near the bottom team offensive club. The only bottom half of the league state consistent with the 20 years of losing was 20 years of finishing in the bottom half of the league in total teams run scored. Its not working. The pitching will regress some and when it foes the offense is going to be asked to pick it up. Will they? Can they? 22 games over can diminish pretty quickly. Can't beat the worst teams in the league when the offensive support vanishes.

The offense is in the ballpark, it's just stuck in the LOBby.

The Pirates as a team are batting with runners in scoring position .228. That’s 3rd from the bottom out of all of the teams in MLB. The only two teams below the Pirates are the Houston Astros (.226) and the Seattle Mariners (.220).

With that kind of offense, I don’t expect much from this Pirate team this season unless something drastic happens and that includes finishing over .500 let alone making the playoffs.

Prepare for another losing season...and how sad it is indeed.

It will be the lack of offense that will doom this Pirate team.

(I will be the first to admit that I was wrong if things change and the outcome is more positive by the end of the season)

Bassoon, I don't think many fans want to admit to another collapse but I feel it's going to happen again simply because of the offense. The bucs have the record they do because pitching has kept this team afloat. Granted now, the bucs have 20 some comeback wins in the late innings, terrific, I've cheered them on for that but they can't continue that. Quit putting the pitching in tough spots. Teams hanging on for dear life do that. Start scoring runs. I'm not talking about the last few series. This has been going on the entire season.

Pitching will regress, on every team pitching regresses, arms wear down. That's just a given. When that time comes this offense will have to step and quit living in the cellar. Their going to have to produce runs better than the have been. However they have to. They're 14th in runs scored in the NL for heavens sakes.
