Tonight should be very telling...Cole needs to come up big to stop a losing streak and do it vs. a quality opponent. Here's hoping he rises to the challenge!

Now would be a really nice night for Jones and Pedro to have big games. Straily is a fly-ball pitcher, with only 35.2% of his pitches being ground balls.

A's have a solid OF with pretty much 2 CF, much like the Pirates, so the lefties being able to take advantage of the (relatively) short porch in right would be ideal.

He throws mostly fastball-slider with some changeups mixed in. Only 10 CB thrown all year, which is good for Alvarez.

Speaking of changeups, did you know that the Pittsburgh Pirates are the worst-hitting team in MLB against changeups, batting .174?

No wonder Cole Hamels mowed us down...

Maybe he'll try something new, instead of his strategy so far of throwing fastballs right down the middle.

You can succeed in the majors by relying heavily on the fastball. Bartolo Colon showed us that last night. What Colon did NOT do is pump them right down broadway. Cole needs to start moving his fastball around the strike zone, or else mix in more sliders and changeups.
