Haha even with Tabata coming back it would be nice to have a full time RF. I don't mind platooning one position full time (1B) but two, eh.

There you go, Starling. Would be great to see him really get going again.

Only complaint so far is that CB Bucknor is behind the plate.

Gaby continues to be a pretty under-appreciated piece for the Pirates this year. He's doing his job (platooning against LHP) perfectly (and as I say that, he has recently hit HRs off of two righty relievers) and his power totals might be becoming more in line with his previous career bests with Florida.

Alvarez's XBH totals also now normalizing very quickly after he started the season with three of them through two months or whatever it was.

Somewhere out there, someone was just vehemently bashing Neal Huntington because Jason Bay drew a walk off of Bryan Morris.

Before anyone interprets this post as somehow advocating that Inge is the greatest thing since sliced bread, his offense has been putrid.

However .... we've all read about his clubhouse contributions and that his teammates hold him in the highest regard. (I think it was an A's player who gave him great accolades for his 'intangible' contribution to the A's strong start last year). If anyone had doubts about how the Pirate players feel about Inge, watch the replay of the HR and how Inge is received at home plate and in the dug out. Those guys were thrilled for him. Pure joy on their faces.

It's easy for us to sit at a keyboard and rip guys like Inge and Barmes. But ... when all is said and done ... both of those guys are 1/25th of a roster that has the second best record in baseball. They've formed friendships and relationships with the other players. And, by all accounts, Barmes and Inge are very well-liked.

I expect Inge to be let go sometime in the 2nd half. I also expect that the move will be cheered by throngs of Pirate fans, most of whom probably couldn't put a bat on a 60 mph fastball and have no clue about team dynamics, coupled with jeers at Inge and management. I'm willing to bet that Inge's Pirate teammates won't be among those who are thrilled about his release.

I'm personally hoping that he is either (a) offered a coaching position so that he can remain a presence on the team or (b) suffers an injury that is just serious enough that he has to go on the 60 day DL but can travel with team and be a bench presence.

Actually, I was going to post something similar, No. 9. He's been awful at the dish and mediocre in the field, but there's no question that Inge has that "veteran presence" intangible down to a science. Look at the Oakland As' record last year when he was in their clubhouse.

I hope he can turn his bat around and eek up into the .250/.310/.400 range to become a contributing bench guy. I really do.

Nice to be able to go to bed at a reasonable time knowing the Bucs were up five and a near-lock to win.

EDIT: It was also pretty funny that the Bucs hit FIVE HR's, but that not one of them came from the red-hot Pedro.
