Mike is making the most of his time spent with Stark/WV. Its funny because Newman was pretty anti-Pirates system before this year. He still bashes Taillon any chance he gets.

The proof will be in the pudding. If the Pirates' minor league staff can turn the team's investment in the draft into high-impact major leaguers, then they'll receive proper recognition and praise. If not, then they'll be criticized.

Agreed. I grew tired of hearing about the Royals "great" system for how many top prospects they had. None of it has translated to MLB wins, so why is your system good? The Cards rarely have a guy in the top 10, yet always put out legit MLB teams.

If by rarely you mean Shelby Miller and Oscar Taveras.

Not completely off-topic since it involves Pirates' catching prospects and the fact that such prospects can take time to develop - Tony Sanchez is having a good season in AAA:

.275/.398/.449 for an OPS of .847

In 69 at-bats, Sanchez has 9 R's, 6 2B's, 2 HR's, 10 RBI's, 9 BB's. His biggest negative is 18 K's.

And before them?

Main point was that the Cards rarely have a guy who's heavily hyped on prospect lists, yet they always seem to put out solid MLB players that click and contribute. While other teams can dominate prospect lists yet still never translate to MLB level.

It sure would be nice if he turned into Yadier Molina...

The Pirates are due that kind of luck at some point.

I'm hoping he's finally figured it out. He has finally matured. A lot of his interviews he talks about being responsible for his pitching staff's big league future along with his.

Yadier was in the majors at 21 and starting by age 22, that ship has long sailed long ago. I'd settle for a little more than Jose Molina at this point.
