We needed this one. Losing two in a row and our guy replacing our #5 guy. Down early. But this Bucco team doesn't quit! Great team effort to pull our a win. Lot of contributors. Let's get to it.

STARTER: Going to give Gomez an OK start. Emergency starter more or less. Gives us 4 mostly decent innings. Three runs. Two earned. His pitching at least keeps us in the game. OK!

WIN: Bryan Morris comes in and cleans up a mess with two pitches, inducing a DP. Then the Bucs get him some runs. Earns the win to go to 1-1 with an ERA of 1.59.

HOLD: Mark Melancon does it again...going a scoreless 8th for his 10th old to go with a great 0.60 ERA.

SAVE: Grilli gets major league leading 11th save. His ERA drops to 0.83.

Honorable Mention
: Lots of contributors today. Justin Wilson. He came in for Gomez and was okay. Gave up a run in 2.1 innings, but got us into the 7th with his effort. Jose Tabata. He went 2-4 and stole a base, which led to our go -ahead run. The Fort went 1-3 in Martin's absence hitting a solo HR, but he needs to work on throwing runners out. Travis Snider came in as PH and singled...starting the tying and subsequent go ahead rally. He always seems to be in the middle of these things. Bryan Morris also gets an HM in my book for coming in with a couple guys on and the Bucs down my two..gets a DP to get out of it.

STAR #3: Brandon Inge. I don't know why some fans are still bitching about Inge. He went 2-4 today with a run and an RBI. He now has 8 game hitting streak playing for injured Walker. His BA is .321

STAR #2: Starling Marte had just 1 hit, but for the second night in a row, what a doozy of a hit. His 8th inning HR tied the game at 4.

STAR #1: Pedro gets 2 hits including a solo HR to tie it early and a single in the 8th for an insurance run. (and off a lefty too) Ends up 2-4, 2 RBI and a run.

I'd flip-flop Pedro and Marte.

I was thinking the same thing, but if Pedro doesn't hit one out, the Pirates go down 3-0 after 4 innings and the insurance run was big.
Regardless of what Hurdle says, they have bad mojo at Miller Park and down 3-0 would have deflated them after the 1st two games.

Both guys came through big today...Anyway to split the points of #2 star and #1 star between them?

I considered flip flopping them...it's the same in the end, but Pedro came up big on two occasions... As you stated, if Pedro doesn't hit the HR, we go down even more...and his insurance run means we could relax a little and not have to worry about being so perfect.

Sticking with my original selection....but thanks for the input!

I didn't think Pedro would have this many homers on the 1st, but I'll take it!

Visiting teams need strong starting pitching...and a strong bullpen for that matter...against the Brewers at Miller Park. The Pirates, I believe, have not had strong pitching recently and in the past against the Brewers at Miller Park to be successful.

As a matter of fact, Miller Park has allowed the most Home Runs.

Is there any air in that building at all?

Yes, there is. They have giant windows in CF that they can open even when the roof is closed (they showed them on Root). Wehner and Neverett said during the entire series that the hitting stats for the Brewers at home were extremely unusual. They hinted around that maybe there was a reason for that. I took it to mean that there was something unusual about the air flow. They even showed a shot of J-Mac on the mound with his uniform blowing like crazy in the wind. And that was on Saturday when the roof was closed.

Conspiracy theory? Well, it's not out of the question... It happened in Minnesota http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/story?id=1585964 And there has been evidence that certain Brewers have violated league policies, so it's not like they would never cheat. So, perhaps there's something there.

Another offense-driven win (well, and bullpen) with nary a mention of Cutch. When his liners start falling, look out.
