I just watched three Pirates...THREE PIRATES...Snider, Cutch, and Jones, strike out standing there with 2 strikes on them taking...TAKING...strike three...STRIKE THREE...on pitches way too close...WAY TOO CLOSE...to take!

As a matter of fact, according to my eyes and the strike zone graphic they were all strike three's.

Let's not protect the plate! Let's just watch strike three go by WITHOUT EVEN SWINGING at the pitch!

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!

These guys should be fined....FINED...for striking out watching strike three go by. And, it doesn't have to be strike three officially but if it's close...CLOSE...swing at the ball...at least SWING AT IT! :x :x :x :x

Root Sports graphic showed strike 3 to Cutch and Jones as balls and Bob Walk commented on pitchers of Halladay's caliber having a 'wider plate'. Both were close though.

I'm pretty sure they were not trying to strike out. And as MP referenced, Halladay gets the close calls.

So I don't think fining a player for taking strike 3 makes much sense, BD. I heard a rumor that Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle, Honus Wagner, and Rogers Hornsby all stood at the plate and watched a strike 3 go by.

Cabrera watched strike 3 end last year's WS.

Can't agree with you on this one, Tom. I hate to see batters flailing away at balls and thereby striking out.

End Results.

Some want to bitch about guys swinging and missing.
Others want to gripe about guys watching strikes go by without swinging.
Some want to moan about missed opportunities, guys failing when given opportunities.

The bottom line is this. Everybody is going going to fail sometimes. Maybe they will strike out looking. Maybe they will swing and miss at a bad pitch. Perhaps they will hit into a DP.

But on another occasion, maybe they will hit a HR off a pitcher you never would of suspected them to hit off of. Maybe they will leg out an infield hit. Maybe they will work the count and draw a much needed walk, resulting in a run.

Cheer for your Bucs. Success or failure on any particular day. Win or lose. This is our team.

Go Bucs!

Thanks buccosfan.

It's not like these guys are not out there trying their best. They are not striking out on purpose. They are giving their all. They are picking up their teammates. I hate fans booing the home town guys regardless of what happens.

Now, let's see all those fans who hated JMac a week ago, and loved him since Saturday. Let's see what tomorrow brings!

Remember, we are talking about a game that when hitting, if you succeed 30% of the time you're an all-star. In any other walk of life you're a failure at 30%. That has to tell you how hard this game really is.
