Will be at the games Saturday and Sunday, but not tonight. Had to go to the California DMV to renew my license ... yeesh, that is an experience I would not wish on my worst enemy.

For a 1-2-3 inning against Greinke that is what you'd like to see. Marte works a full count, Walker and McCutchen with some deep flys.

Real nice AB by Walker in the 7th despite the line driving going right at Gonzalez. Remember how unlucky he seemed to be re: BABIP through April last year despite seeming to hit the ball really well?

... McCutchen caught stealing on the first pitch after Greinke gets chased ("chased" being relative, the Dodgers being careful with his pitch count). That's the kind of stuff that can't be happening in these circumstances.

The offense is just biding its time waiting for Marmol to show up.

Simply astounding that Martin got that called ball 4 considering tonight's strike zone up to this point.

There's Jones striking out on 3 pitches with a RISP and no outs ... if that's Alvarez there is surely a new thread started.

Harrison pinch-hitting for Barmes ... I think I'd take my chances on the latter getting a hold of one.

I'm extremely interested to see what our team batting average is right now. We have made every single starting pitcher we've faced look like a Cy Young Award winner.

It's official. I will not be attending this coming week. 16 hits in 39 innings does not inspire me to actually spend money to go and sit in the big airplane hanger that is Bank One Ballpark. A pity to see such good pitching going to waste. :o :o :o :o :o

Relax, folks. If you don't feel the need to support your team with 158 games left in the season then so be it, leave those tickets to someone who would appreciate them. As a fellow out of town fan I know I will take every chance I get to catch them live when they come through throughout the season.

It's a disappointing start, but I repeat: it's 4 games. Tonight's game is what it is. It was a former Cy Young winner going against a SP who wouldn't have broke camp with the team if it wasn't for injuries to two different other pitchers. Yeah, you want to see better results than managing two hits off of him, but it's not all that surprising given how the team hit last April/May before they heated up and starting posting actually solid numbers.

Eh, it's still plenty early in the season. But they look an awful lot like last years horrible offensive team. It's the same story too, need more from Jones/Alvarez, and we really need Marte to catch on.

So far this year, Kansas City, 18 runs scored. Pittsburgh, 6.

While I'm not OVERLY concerned at this point, this has to change, obviously.

From last night...

The Good:
-Sanchez pitched Ok, he didn't get killed
-Alvarez played very good defense
-Gomez pitched three solid, shutout innings
-Vin Scully is the best announcer I've ever heard, in any sport

The Bad:
-Nine...NINE teams scored as many or more runs yesterday than the Pirates have all season. Chris Davis of the Orioles has 16 RBI's by himself.
-It doesn't get any easier. I'm already sick of the "It's only four games, it's early" crowd.

Well, it's .127, six points behind the Cubbies.

God, I'm feeling ghoulish. Kind of like watching a train wreck, but we have 15 hits in four games and a total of 19 total bases. We're the only team in the majors yet to hit a home run. We've scored 6 runs, so only 3 off of pitchers not named Marmol. All those numbers are dead last in the majors. The good news: we're "only" 19th in strikeouts. :| Other than McCutchen at .308 and Clint at .222, we have no one else hitting above the Mendoza line.

Now the real good news: the pitching has been pretty solid. We're 6th in ERA and we've allowed the 3rd fewest runs. We've only allowed 6 walks (tied for 2nd with four other teams) and we're middle of the pack for strikeouts.

So, after 4 whole games, we can accentuate the positive or dwell on the negatives. Let's stick with the former.

Didn't anyone notice how terrible this home plate umpire was? I've never seen an umpire so influenced by a catcher's positioning. If you threw it to the glove, you got a strike. Otherwise, you did not. The ball's position relative to the plate had no bearing.

I only watched the first two innings. I have no interest in watching a game played under those circumstances.

Wow, why did I stay up last night. 6 runs, 0 homers, 15 hits, 2 guys over 200. To some that's not depressing?? Oh, I know, it must be Alverez's fault.
