The curse has reached 20 years. There is no way the Baseball Gods let it reach 21....that revered number is retired. So the 40th anniversary of the year #21 died overcomes the 20th anniversary of the streak. Roberto's got this, guys.

Unless the Baseball Gods send #21, in his prime, back to the Pirates for this season, I have my doubts.

I'm hoping for the best, though.

Where would he play? Snider is in RF.

I think they would platoon. Roberto would be 79 years old now, so he could probably only play about 120 games.

In 2011, there were two players left from the 1992 Pirates roster: Tim Wakefield and Miguel Batista. The Pirates were in the race for almost 4 months.

In 2012, there was one player left from the 1992 Pirates roster: Miguel Batista. The Pirates was in the race for almost 5 months.

2013: Miguel Batista signed a minor league deal and is competing for a bullpen spot with the Rockies with another goofy configured pitching rotation in 2013.

Here's to a happy retirement Miguel!!!

I like the chances for a good season because the Pirates have 5 legitimate starting pitchers, a deep pen, a superb young arm in AAA they can add in June, a very good pitcher with a filthy 2-seamer who should be back by June or July (and dealing at 96 mph from the pen), much better catching than the past 2 seasons, a better line-up in general, and still have 3 games with the Astros.

I wish it was that simple...then again, it's been tragic that this losing streak has reached 20 years. That we even have to mention Roberto's beloved Number 21 as a possible way for this misery to end.

The Pirates could have a 21st losing season and then we would be talking about invoking Cutch's @#22 as the year the losing stops????

I know what you're saying brad, and I hope Roberto's #21 DOES end all of the Pirate losing years. It would be poetic justice that's for sure. :)

BD- Surely you would allow for the forces that control baseball (no, not Bud Selig) to assure that this will stop before it reaches #21. We are not talking about logic here...we are talking about hidden viggerish. (I beleive you are old enough to know what I'm talking about)

I agree with all of this.
