Good! I've been hoping for this since I heard about Liriano's injury.

Terms are believed to be 1 year at $2.5M, about a million and a half less than he was projected to get through arbitration. I would have tendered him, but of course, it ain't my money, and I'll be the first to admit that it was a real borderline decision.

I'm glad he's coming back. I love watching him pitch.

This is great...but I hope it doesn't preclude Liriano or Marcum. I would still like the depth of having one of those two.

At a minimum, we now have a pretty good idea of the market for Jeff Karstens . . . he was non-tendered; tested free agency waters and jumped at the chance to re-sign with the Bucs for $2.5M.

Have always liked his spirit and willingness to fill in where they needed him. Glad he's back.

Projections were that he’d make $3.8 million through salary arbitration.

And trust me, this won’t be one of those where the pitcher agrees to come back at a lower rate. He’s out of here.

Well, I guess I know who to trust from now on.

i think he is here to be the 6th starter fill the role that had koria last season. I like it he has struggled being healthy all season but 15 spots starts to keep are top 5 fresher and long relief i can live with.

Derp is back home, where he belongs.

I may have to get a DERP jersey to add to the Searage.

I believe if Jeff can stay healthy, he can be an effective and an important arm any time he starts a game.

Can't really grasp how he had so much less interest than Correia, but then again there is only one front office like the Twins. Glad he's back, we have cut him before and he fought back to claim a SP job. He's great insurance for Locke/KMac. I think we still need one of Marcum/Liriano.

I'm surprised he re-signed. I feel he could have done better than 1 year and $2.5 million.

But it's a very good move by NH and the Pirates. They retained Karstens and saved about $1.3 million compared to what they would have paid him through arbitration. Well done.
